May 22nd Garden Jobs for the week

Things have really kicked off in garden with a hot April and a wet May, plants are few weeks ahead.

Tomatoes and chillies are ready to be potted into their final home in greenhouse, am debating growbags versus individual pots. I have probably left them a little too long, taking into account my dad - Tomato King has already potted his on.

Courgettes and dwarf beans have settled into their new home and am hopeful this year for a good crop from both. For two years I've always grown courgettes in pots so this is my first year with them in permanent bed. Last year my dwarf beans fell to a greater enemy, the resident Chez Harmo slug & snail population , within 3 days of planting out. Fingers crossed for 2011.

Our four mature olives (in pots) suffered alot from the bad winter we had and are not at their best - but thanks to some TLC and a few weeks in heat of greenhouse, the flower buds are out and things are looking up. My Harmo Olive Grove may survive another year after all!

I did a bit of extra plant culling today, still have plants left over from wedding last year so shared them out to my friends and some extra ones I found growing in the herb bed. Some sneaky baby chives have been growing away among my golden oregano and before I was about to weed it out as grass, I coped they were chive-lets.

Beer slug traps are working so well I can't believe I had them in the shed for a year! All those plants that suffered so needlessly. Totally recommend them as well as careful planting, am using a second back up of many, many pot marigolds all over the garden to take the onslaught of sluggy snail damage!

Happy Gardening!
